In this very unique 5-day workshop Shane Wolf will teach his approach to creating a preparatory drawing and small alla prima color studies from the live model, and then how to create a finished painting from these studies.

A solid preparatory drawing from life allows the artist tremendous freedom when moving to the painting: compositional study, color study, size experiments, etc, are all aspects that can be played with before engaging the final painting.

Over many years Shane has developed his own approach to this traditional technique and will share what he has found to be very useful in preparatory drawings as well as what is superfluous (i.e. how to take color notes, anatomical notes, etc, so as to be as efficient as possible while the model is posing).

One great advantage to this approach is that there is no limit to the time one can spend on the painting once a sound preparatory drawing is completed. During this workshop students will spend several days developing their preparatory drawing from the live model, one session painting alla prima color studies from the model, then will have several days to work on their figure painting without the model. Even after the workshop is over, students will have enough information to be able to continue to work on their paintings.

This workshop is great for painters of all levels, as Shane's approach to developing final paintings from drawings is quite a unique and personal.

You will need to organise your own accommodation (we can help you!) and you will need to organise your own travel arrangements. If you are flying from outside of the UK, you should try and fly into either Manchester (if flying outside the EU) or into Leeds/Bradford Airport if within the EU. I can arrange for a taxi to pick you up (From Manchester, 1.5 hour is around £105 one way, from Leeds/Bradford, 45 minutes is around £55 one way). If you would like me to arrange these transfers, just ask. We have 8 rooms at our Rosemary & Co accommodation. This always sells first, and it is first-come, first served.

Full payment is needed for the accommodation. For prices, and to book a space onsite, please let me know after you have signed up. I will then put you in contact with Janine. You must sign up for the workshop before we can confirm any on-site accommodation queries. We recommend if you are flying long haul, you come in a couple of days earlier and stay a day or so later so you can rest and not feel rushed.

You can see all of our Terms and Conditions and the Code of Conduct here. Please familiarise yourself with this before signing up.
