“In this five day seminar we will go through the stages of how I approach still life painting with an emphasis and strong focus on how understanding the limitations of your paint is the secret to achieving powerful light effects. This is, by the way how the great Spanish painter Sorolla so beautifully captured light.
Through daily demonstrations and hands on painting we will together go through the step-by-step process that I use in approaching an alla prima painting. This will be an concise version of what I teach my 3rd year core students at GLAFA.
After four decades of painting professionally I’ve come to firmly believe that one only becomes a master painter by mastering the fundamentals. Two of the key elements that form the fundamental foundation is what I call the “Triad” and relational comparison, both of which we will explore in depth.
The instruction will be personal and hands on, I will work on each of your pieces throughout the process to demonstrate directly different aspects for you to see. My hope and goal for everyone is that they will leave with both a conceptual and practical experience that will allow for them to continue to develop beyond the week what all that they learned going forward in their own work.
I’m looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you and together getting down to the business of working hard together to make some solid progress in everyones work.” Jeff

Included in this workshop is 5 days tuition, all your lunches, easels, paper towels, gloves and two evening meals. This price also includes 20% VAT.
Non-painting partners are welcome at no extra fee, though if they’d like food etc then there may be a small charge.
Needless to say, you can purchase many things from our HQ including the brushes Jeff uses, the paints, mineral spirits and more…just let us know well in advance. If you would like to borrow an easel, we can arrange that for you. However, if you do have your own pochade or travel easel, please feel free bring it - and let us know.
We will send out a materials list 1 month before the workshop itself. We do this as things can change with the teachers required supplies and this way it saves any confusion or buying twice. Please be patient with this, as soon as it’s ready, we will send it over to you. A full itinerary of the workshop will also be issued.
You will need to organise your own accommodation (we can help you!) and you will need to organise your own travel arrangements. If you are flying from outside of the UK, you should try and fly into either Manchester (if flying outside the EU) or into Leeds/Bradford Airport if within the EU. I can arrange for a taxi to pick you up (From Manchester, 1.5 hour is around £100 one way, from Leeds/Bradford, 45 minutes is around £55 one way). If you would like me to arrange these transfers, just ask. We have 8 rooms at our Rosemary & Co accommodation. This always sells first, and it is first-come, first served.
Part payment are offered for the accommodation at Rosemary & Co. For prices and to book a space onsite, we will send you some information once you have signed up. You must sign up for the workshop before we can confirm any accommodation queries. We recommend if you are flying long haul, you come in a couple of days earlier and stay a day or so later so you can rest and not feel rushed.
You can see all of our Terms and Conditions and the Code of Conduct here. Please familiarise yourself with this before signing up.
