This workshop will start at 10am each morning and finish at 5pm - with a 1 hour lunch break. Your lunches are included - these will be packed lunches. Please let us know your dietary requirements upon signing up - and if they have changed before the workshop itself, please let us know.
The main HQ location will be: Craven Hall, Sackville Street, Skipton, BD23 2PB, England. This is a short 15-20 minute drive from the Rosemary & Co. There is free parking on the side streets. However, most days we will meet at the location we are going to paint - or convoy (caravan) from an arranged point to ensure we all get there together, on time. Although you are not required to hire your own car for this workshop, we will need drivers - and therefore if you are planning on coming with a car, please let me know in advance. We usually ask you if you wouldn’t mind students without a car to hop in with you - and pay you back for fuel by way of a tube or two of paint or a few extra brushes!
Medium: Oil
Number of students: Maximum 16

In this 5 day workshop students will be working in the field and watching daily demonstrations in order to develop their skills in landscape painting. Students will develop a strong understanding of how light behaves and the way light describes form in a landscape. This understanding will be crucial to developing your concept in a painting as well as establishing the proper shapes and values. Students will also learn how to apply the fundamentals of painting, such as drawing, values, color, and edges to painting en plein air.
This class will also emphasize the importance of being deliberate in the decision making process of painting. In order to make good decisions in painting, there needs to be a clear visual concept to begin with. In this class, students will learn how to take a scene and use that to formulate concepts for painting.
Students will also receive individual attention as they work in the field so the instructor can help address the specific goals each individual has for their work. Therefore this workshop will benefit artists of all levels.
Join Kyle, from the comfort of your own home whilst Kyle takes you through his process of painting flowers from life.
For this online painting demonstration, Kyle Ma will paint David Austin roses and other flowers hand-picked from Rosemary’s garden in a 3 hour painting demonstration and talk. This is the recorded version, the live version has now been and gone.
Needless to say, you can purchase many things from our HQ including the Rosemary brushes Kyle uses, lots of paints, gamsol/miracle medium/mediums, some panels, easels (new for 2025) and more…just let us know well in advance. You will also need to bring your own pochade box/outdoor easel for this workshop.
We will send out a materials list 4-6 weeks before the workshop itself. We do this as things can change with the teachers required supplies and this way it saves any confusion or buying twice. Please be patient with this, as soon as it’s ready, we will send it over to you.

Included in this workshop are your lunches each day, two evening meals and drinks and the demonstration afternoon, which will take place from 3-6pm on Sunday 17th August at the Workshop HQ. You will need to organise your own accommodation (we can help you!) and you will need to organise your own travel arrangements. If you are flying from outside of the UK, you should try and fly into either Manchester (if flying outside the EU) or into Leeds/Bradford Airport if within the EU. I can arrange for a taxi to pick you up (From Manchester, 1.5 hour is around £100 one way, from Leeds/Bradford, 45 minutes is around £55 one way). If you would like me to arrange these transfers, just ask. We have 8 rooms at our Rosemary & Co accommodation. This always sells first, and it is first-come, first served.
Part payment are offered for the accommodation at Rosemary & Co. For prices and to book a space onsite, we will send you some information once you have signed up. You must sign up for the workshop before we can confirm any accommodation queries. We recommend if you are flying long haul, you come in a couple of days earlier and stay a day or so later so you can rest and not feel rushed.
You can see all of our Terms and Conditions and the Code of Conduct here. Please familiarise yourself with this before signing up.
