Join Jessica Britton every second Saturday of the month where together, you will practice, experiment, and explore portraiture through the expressive power of colour. A compelling portrait doesn’t just capture a likeness — it feels alive, stirs emotion, and reveals the essence of the sitter. In this relaxed, untutored session, you’ll be encouraged to play with bold colour combinations on the live model using costume, dynamic backdrops, and coloured lighting.

Beginners will gain confidence exploring new ideas in a supportive, pressure-free space, while experienced artists can push the boundaries of their practice and discover fresh inspiration. Come ready to experiment, take creative risks, and see portraiture in a whole new light.

  • The location of our HQ is: Workshops in Yorkshire HQ, Suite 2, Craven Hall, Sackville Street, Skipton, BD23 2PB, England.

  • Doors open to the HQ at 9:30am for a prompt start at 10am until 4pm. We will have a 30 minute lunch break at 1pm. Jessica Britton will be the time keeper.

  • Yes, please bring your own drawing or painting materials.

    We have paper, pencils, charcoal, rubbers, paints for sale. You can see more at our store click here. We have easels and drawing boards available for you to borrow, please email us and notify us ahead of time. We can not guarantee an easel or table for walk-ins.

  • No — this is an open, untutored session. You’re free to work at your own pace. Professional artist, Jessica Britton will be on hand to help set up, direct the pose, manage the time etc. Please reach out to Jessica with questions about the upcoming session @jessicabrittonart

    • £30 upfront (advance booking)

    • £35 on the door

  • There is not a car park strictly for the workshop since we are in the centre of Skipton. There is street parking one minute away from the HQ. Make sure you do not park on double yellow lines otherwise you'll get a fine.

  • Cancellations & Refunds

    We understand that plans can change, so we aim to keep our policy fair and straightforward for everyone.

    Up to 7 days before the session
    You can cancel your booking for a full refund (minus any booking fees).

    Within 7 days of the session
    Bookings are non-refundable, but you’re welcome to transfer your place to another available Skipton Portrait Session, provided you give us at least 48 hours’ notice.

    Within 48 hours of the session
    Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer refunds or transfers at this stage, as costs for the session have already been committed.

    If we need to cancel
    In the unlikely event that we need to cancel a session, you’ll be offered the choice of a full refund or a transfer to a future date.

    If you’re unable to attend, you’re also welcome to pass your place on to a friend, just let us know in advance.
